Writing (Hi)Stories: Literature and Research on Memory and Identity in Estonia
Félix Krawatzek presented the MoveMeRU research at the event ‘Writing (Hi)Stories: Literature and Research on Memory and Identity in Estonia’ at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
The event explored how literature expands and shapes historical imaginaries. The starting point was the multi-award-winning novel Purge by Finnish author Sofi Oksanen, which tells the story of two women's lives in 20th-century Estonia between Soviet occupation, national identity and personal guilt.
In a dialogue between literature and social sciences, perspectives were opened up on how individual and collective memories arise and are passed on between generations.
