The mission statement of the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) sets out the central functions, objectives, and values of the institute. It aims to serve as a basic framework for staff and give the public a clear overview of the most important elements of research and working life at ZOiS.

Here you can find news about new projects and cooperations, ZOiS researchers and visiting scholars, the acquisition of external funding, as well as information about events and calls for papers.

Collaborating with other institutions at home and abroad and establishing and participating in networks relevant to Eastern Europe are central to ZOiS’s mission. Here we look beyond the purely academic horizon.

We support young people in their efforts to take up a career in research or science communication. We aim to enable them to acquire useful skills and access important networks for research on Eastern Europe.

ZOiS is firmly committed to ensuring the equality of all its staff in all areas of work and at all career levels, and actively promotes equal opportunities. In order to further embed gender equality at an institutional level, ZOiS produced a Gender Equality Plan in January 2022.

The annual report provides a detailed overview of ZOiS's vision, goals, research projects, events, publications and other activities. It is published annually and is available in both digital and printed form.
