Cafe Kyiv 2025
"We are U" by SavED features students and teachers from across Ukraine who reflect on their experiences and their aspirations for the future. We will discuss the transnational educational experiences of Ukrainian students and ask why families are not always satisfied with German schools.
Discussion
This event will explore the complex realities of childhood in times of war based on the findings of the research project ‘Children and Social Cohesion: Vulnerability, Role and Interests’. The discussion will present the results of focus group discussions with children of internally displaced persons and local communities in Ukraine.

Book talk with Serhiy Kudelia
When does separatism become a cover for foreign aggression? How do local communities respond when state institutions come under pressure and militants take over? Serhiy Kudelia will explore these pressing questions and offer key insights at ZOiS, where he will present his new book.

In the first Book Talk of 2025, Mykhailo Minakov offers new perspectives on the collapse of the Soviet Union. Combining approaches from different academic fields, his new book delves into the developments and challenges of the period from 1989 to 2022 and encourages readers to reflect on its deeper lessons.
ZOiS Forum: Playback Theater Performance
This improvisational theatre performance is linked to a research project that accompanies refugees from and in Ukraine from their place of origin to their place of arrival. It investigates and visualises the experiences of displacement and arrival as well as questions of identity and the sense of belonging.
Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS
With the first two waves of scholarship funding now complete, the Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS will present research outcomes on topics such as displacement, reconstruction, civil society, education, religion, and popular culture and discuss policy implications.

UNET Series
Evacuation alerts can be a crucial tool in ensuring the safety of civilians in the context of natural disasters and war. The rapid spread of information can help people escape danger before it's too late. However, there has been a lack of scientific testing to determine how best to design these alerts.
