Russischer Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine (II): Geschichte und Kultur umdeuten und verfälschen

Félix Krawatzek appeared as a guest on the University of Mainz’s podcast “Clio auf die Ohren” in June. As part of episode 5 of the series “Geschichte(n) Osteuropas: postkolonial und transnational”, he discussed with historian Prof. Dr Kerstin Jobst from the Institute for Eastern European History at the University of Vienna how dictatorships use history as a political weapon. The episode also examined the significance of historical revisionism for authoritarian regimes, discussed the extent to which Russia can be described as a dictatorship, and used the example of Crimea to illustrate how historical narratives have been used for centuries to underpin territorial claims.
