Memory Wars and the Rise of the Far-Right

Several members of our team – Sophia Winkler, Hakob Matevosyan and Félix Krawatzek – are taking part in the workshop “Memory Wars and the Rise of the Far-Right”, organised by Katarina Ristić and the Institute for Social Cohesion at the University of Leipzig.

As part of the opening event, Félix Krawatzek (speaker) and Hakob Matevosyan (moderator) will also take part in the panel discussion “The End of Normative Memory Studies?”. The focus will be on questions regarding the global interconnections and local adaptations of the so-called “German model” of coming to terms with the past, as well as the challenges arising from political polarisation, social fragmentation and social media.

As part of the workshop, Félix Krawatzek and Hakob Matevosyan will present their joint paper ‘Socialisation and History: Understanding Attitudes towards the War in Ukraine’. In addition, Hakob Matevosyan will present his research findings in the paper ‘Surveys and Interviews in Analysing Generational Memory’.
