Dramatising History – Online Panel for Close Up WWII
A joint event with Cottbus Film Festival
Films make history. But films also interpret history, and sometimes, they shift the emphasis. The “Dramatising History” series at this year’s Close Up WWII explored how history narratives change. Political scientist Félix Krawatzek talked to film-makers about how and in which context certain historical events have taken centre stage in recent cinematography while others have drifted to the margins of our collective consciousness.

30. FilmFestival Cottbus
Cottbus Film Festival celebrated its 30th anniversary from 3 to 8 November 2020 and, with its packed programme of 200 films screened in real-world cinemas in Cottbus and live-streamed across Germany, it is a treat for every film-lover.
In addition to competitions for feature films, short films, teen movies and regional short films, the 30th CFF focused thematically on the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII and the 30th anniversaries of German reunification and the founding of the state of Brandenburg, and geographically on the Czech Republic, Poland and Russia.
The event is part of the series ZOiS Forum.
The ZOiS Forum brings together academic, artistic, and political perspectives on the issues driving Eastern Europe today. Our aim is to make the significance and variety of our region of research accessible to a broad audience. Readings, discussions, presentations, and film screenings take place once a month during the semester.
