student assistant (m/f/d) for the Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS (UNET)

The Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) is an independent, international, publicly funded research institute. It focuses on interdisciplinary, policy-relevant academic research on Eastern Europe and shares the results with policymakers, the media, and the broader public.

The Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS (UNET) is a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space with the aim of connecting social science research on Ukraine and strengthening its visibility and impact.

ZOiS attaches great importance to the task of communicating the results of its research to the public. In addition to the institute’s own publications, this is achieved through a wide range of events aimed at the academic community, policymakers and interested members of the public.

Tasks:

  • Organising events on-site and online (workshops, discussions, annual multi-day network meetings): assisting with preparation, implementation and accounting
  • Communication with UNET Fellows: supporting the coordinator in connecting Fellows in Ukraine with ZOiS staff, assisting with the planning of Fellows’ visits to ZOiS and business trips (hotel bookings, organisation, reimbursements)
  • Maintaining the UNET pages on the ZOiS website
  • Supporting the coordinator in drafting reports for the funding body, UNET contributions to ZOiS’s research communication formats (Spotlights, reports), and in the filing and archiving of project documents

Requirements:

  • Enrolment at a university in Germany

Your profile:

  • Very good knowledge of German and English; Ukrainian is desirable
  • Ability to work independently and reliably
  • Ideally, some experience in organising events (in-person and online)
  • Flexibility, excellent communication skills and sensitivity when dealing with people affected by war

The working hours are 10 hours per week and are remunerated in accordance with the Berlin collective agreement for student employees (TV Stud III) (currently €15.20 per hour). The position is to be filled from 1 September 2026 and, subject to funding from the BMFTR, is initially limited to 12 months. We aim to extend the contract.
