Stylish Academic Writing

This workshop explored how participants could progress from good to stylish in their academic writing in English. It focused on strategies for presenting research in a way that engages readers both within and beyond one’s discipline. Through work on samples of their own writing, participants learned techniques for crafting cogent and persuasive arguments. Drawing inspiration from texts by accomplished academic authors, the workshop emphasised the development of each participant’s individual writing style.

Dr. Anne Boden studied Russian and German in Dublin and Cambridge. She completed her PhD on the memory discourses around published diaries of World War II in the GDR and West Germany at Trinity College Dublin in 2009. Her studies were interspersed with extensive stays in Russia, including a year in St. Petersburg as an intern at a human rights NGO. She has worked as an editor and translator since 2009, and joined ZOiS in February 2021.
