The Yuri M. Schmidt International Human Rights Conference
The 9th Yuri M. Schmidt International Human Rights Conference took place in Berlin on 6–7 June. On this occasion, a member of our team presented the findings of our focus group research.
The conference is held in memory of the Russian human rights lawyer Yuri Markovich Schmidt. It focuses on cross-border human rights issues such as the right to asylum, political persecution under accusations of ‘extremism’ or ‘terrorism’, hostage diplomacy and digital civil liberties. Lawyers, human rights activists, politicians and experts from around the world are brought together to develop solutions – for example, on safeguarding the right to asylum, utilising international legal mechanisms, combating politically motivated prosecution in authoritarian states, and representing democratic exile movements.
