Description

Since February 2022, the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has caused humanitarian, economic and social crises, especially for the Ukrainian population, and triggered a new wave of emigration from Russia. In response to the pressing questions for European policy and the need for scientific expertise arising from these developments, ZOiS founded the research network ERDAM (Emerging Russian Diasporas and Anti-War Movements) in December 2023.

Through a systematic and intensive exchange between research centres and researchers at different stages of their careers, ERDAM aims to link and promote interdisciplinary approaches to research on migration and political mobilisation. The network will also contribute to the international and national networking goals of ZOiS and increase the visibility of the institute in the scientific and political community.

Goals

  • to advance the discussion on the role of diasporas in peace processes and their impact on the political dynamics between home and host countries
  • to support young scientists and open up new fields of research
  • to promote the exchange of information on relevant ongoing projects and to develop interdisciplinary research questions
  • carry out joint publication projects
  • facilitate the transfer of expertise to a specialist audience and a wider public
  • structured networking and regular thematic meetings and workshops
