The anti-war activism by members of the post-2022 Russian diaspora in Serbia was short-lived. Within two years, their protests and other anti-war activities had petered out. Drawing on 50 in-depth interviews with Russians who migrated to Serbia after February 2022, this presentation tries to explain the failure of transnational mobilization in this case. What did the Serbian context have to do with it? Based on her recent article, Liudmila Listrovaya will show how this semi-authoritarian host country produced a unique form of transnational repression in which anti-war activism by recent Russian migrants could not flourish.
