On 16 September 2020, the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Eastern Europe – Global Area” (EEGA) organises a small-scale event in place of the 2nd Regional Conference of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES) on “Globalising Eastern Europe – New Perspectives on Transregional Entanglements”, originally planned for September 2020 in Leipzig.

The two-part panel discussion (45 minutes each) focuses on topical issues that have emerged in this turbulent year, and which will shape our work as researchers in the foreseeable future, namely 1) Research questions that arise because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and 2) Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on practicalities of empirical research.

The event starts at 7 pm (local time) and features Gwendolyn Sasse (ZOiS), Judith Pallot (BASEES), Matthias Middell (EEGA), Gabriele Freitag (DGO), and Stefan Rohdewald (UL) as invited guests. It is moderated by Gemma Pörzgen (free journalist).

Registration

You are warmly invited to join the discussions, either in presence (at Tagungslounge Leipzig); a limited number of seats are available), or online via livestream. For both, registering is unfortunately indispensable (please follow this link), both for reasons of hygiene and distance regulations, and for receiving an access code to the stream. For those who cannot participate, a video will be made available at EEGA’s website after the event.

Organised by EEGA and BASEES in cooperation with the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde e. V. (DGO), both Berlin.
